Sanctity of Sinners | Coney Island Variety Show

"We are here! We are queer, straight, trans, WE ARE WOMEN!!!" -Nola Star

When my friend, Nola Star, first told me she was producing a project about women empowerment in Coney Island, I knew I had to get on board. "Sanctity of Sinners" was co-produced and hosted by Maestra Mayhem, and co-sponsored by Coney Island Brewery. These incredibly talented, body positive, fierce women know how to put on a show! See some of my favorite moments & check out the amazing performers below.

Coney Island USA 2018 Mermaid Parade

One of my favorite things to do at the start of summer in NYC every year is attend the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. It's a magical, sparkly, colorful kick-off to the summer season that celebrates art, inclusivity, and creativity, combining all my favorite things in life.

According to Coney Island USA's website, "The MERMAID PARADE specifically was founded in 1983 with 3 goals: it brings mythology to life for local residents who live on streets named Mermaid and Neptune ; it creates self-esteem in a district that is often disregarded as 'entertainment'; and it lets artistic New Yorkers find self-expression in public."

Glamorous Carnival Styled Shoot

A few months ago my good friend and fellow Rising Tide Society member, Yari Santiago, of Cake and Champagne NYC, came to me with an idea for a styled shoot. It would be carnival themed, which is something she knew was right up my alley! There is a glamorous spin on the theme which was so fun because who doesn't love sparkles?!

It was supposed to be a rainy, overcast Saturday, but the sun shined on us at Coney Island. It turned out to be warm and beautiful for our first styled shoot! Our models, Brooklyn and Darryl, are a real life, amazingly adorable couple living in Brooklyn.

Thank you so much to all the vendors (listed below) who donated time, services and products to make this happen.

Jaadin Adele Studio

This past Thursday, my sweet friend Jaadin hosted an art show of her gorgeous abstract paintings. In honor of her 30th birthday, the show was called "Multiples of 30" and every last detail was themed! Her works were all painted in groups of three and sold as sets. The gallery was on display at The Rabbit Hole Studio in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

Digital images of Jaadins's work simply could never do justice to how stunning her paintings are. Her use of color is so lovely. As the number one fan of anything glittery, my favorite part is the way she incorporates metallic paints! It's something you must see in person! I can't wait to have one of her custom pieces hanging on my wall!

Thank you to Linsey Mackey of A Baker at Heart for the delicious cupcakes! And happy 30th birthday, Jaadin!
